Jonah White has just about done it all.  He’s played football, he’s lived in a cave, he’s gone wife shopping, and now, he has earned enought to live where he grew up and send his kids to private school.  Jonah has truely chosen a life much different than the masses, if fact, we think he has avoided the masses on purpose.  We caught up with Jonah in between his jet setting to Australia, big game hunting in Alaska, and taking his kids to school.  Jonah really is one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet, and has found out what is important to him…and simple does it.

Jonah created a company called The Billy-Bob Teeth Co. that makes funny fake teeth, that really look…REAL.  His novelty company is international, and his story is truely amazing.  From living in a cave, being on a tv show with Joan Rivers, to building his own self sustaining house in rural Illinois, you just have to hear it to believe it.

Today we talked to two small business owners that both help you get paid. Bob Scott started a company to help contractors AND homeowner by improving the payment management system for home improvements.  Sean Manning bought his fathers accounting practice, and has transformed it into so much more.  From payroll to online everything, Sean has systematized the financial tracking side of your business.

Contract Escrow Services helps construction payments go to contractors, while protecting the interests of both parties.  Bob created this one of a kind company out of personal experience in contracting and hiring contractors to work on his own house.  The only problem is, like a lot of small business owners, he is not sure how to market the service.

Sean Manning bought out his father several years ago.  Back then, Manning & Co. was a small family owned firm.  Today, while it is still family owned, it has morphed into a whole host of services that service clients across the country.

Today Johnny and I talked with Brian Doubleday and John Love from Greenworks Video about how they have harnessed the power of the web.  Have you watched the weather guy?  The cool looking map they stand in front of is actually a green screen.  This allows the station to project or drop in a moving or static picture or video behind them.

Greenworks uses the same technology to place anyone into their own set or background.  Because they have created a system to keep costs low, this can happen for less than $300!

With a background in producing everything from movies to 30 second commercials, Brian bring a huge resume of experience to help you make a great video.  We found that John can really help you find your inner Saturday Night Live cast member to be as creative as possible.

Can anything Good come from Boulder?

Saturday, November 20, 2010 AT 10:11 AM

Today we interviewed Don Bushey from The Wilderness Exchange.  Don is straight from Boulder, and should be on the sign.  We had a great time leaning about how a ski and adventure kid from the Midwest can grow a hugely successful retail store…across the street from the industry GIANT.  Don shared how he got into the business, and what has kept them competitive in a highly competitive market.

We determined that using the latest in technology to grow a business, is not the most important thing.  I think Johnny would agree with me when I say knowing your target audience, bringing great service and prices, and being consistent, is what Don taught us his secrete formula is.  Not to mention that a closet is a good place to stay when you start a new retail operation to save money.

So if you need adventure gear in Denver, or in the United States, visit them in their store, or online.

Gone to the Dogs!

Sunday, November 14, 2010 AT 10:11 AM

This should tell you a lot about this weeks show:  “The dog is like crack to you guys”      -Johnny

“Sit here, put your tongue out.” Jamie Rowe tells us what “normal” looks like for pet photography.  We had a blast talking about three businesses that have a ton of passion.  85% of people in Colorado have pets!  It is a great market.

There are more photographers than any other state!  How has this photographer made such a great business in such a competitive market? www.jaimerowephotography.com  to connect with her.

Then we talked to Suzie Costello with Pupsicles Dog Care.  She left corporate America after being at a party where she realized she hated what she was doing.  Within a week, she was walking dogs!  AND she hasn’t looked back.  To learn more about Suzie, visit her website .

Mindy Jarvis might be able to help me with my Dober-hound and his behavior.  She too started her business out of a passion for loving dogs.  Mindy solves problems that we have with our dogs as the enter our “human world.”  Despite the economy, people still want their dogs to behave.  You can visit her websit to get more info.

It was a great show, and you need to watch our Facebook page this week, as we will be telling you how to get some great gifts from our guests.  So please connect with us there and click “Like” to follow us.

Have you ever wondered about the world of owning a franchise?  This was the show for you.  In fact, it will be the show for you next week too, because we had such a good time, we asked everyone to come back to finish the conversation.

We first had Ruth Garcia, a franchise consultant with RG2 Consulting.  She helps people looking to buy a franchise discover the perfect franchise for them.  She brought in a client and a Master franchiser in to talk with us about their businesses.

We spoke with Curtis Crays who owns a local franchise of  Archadeck, a builder of decks, sunrooms, and outdoor spaces.   He shared with us about his transition from corporate life to now wearing all the hats.

Then we spoke with Christie Spencer, a Master Franchisee of Always Best Care.  This was a unique look at what kind of service a franchise could have…but not all get this kind of support.  We surprised Christie a little, by calling one of her franchises that she works with to get an idea of what kind of help she really gives.

Last, we spoke with David Lundstrom, who owns a three local franchises of the UPS Store.  It was good to get a seasoned franchisees perspective.

We’ve learned a little bit about them all, next week, we are going to have them all back to dig a little deeper.  It should get interesting!  Join us Saturday at 8 am on AM 560, KLZ radio.
